to murder her husband and daughter. she took the stand to tell jurors what happened. pictures of happier times for the defense -- they presented the photo album of earlier years of marriage. the 60-year-old testified her relationship with president became strained as she became ill. she said she had been treated for depression since 1991 and had been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and posttraumatic stress disorder. when her estranged husband was shot multiple times, she pledged that she did not remember pulling the trigger. she described herself as being in a fog, looking at herself from up high while inside the home, seen the gun in her hand, wondering what it was doing there. she told the jury that she had never heard the gun. she is charged in the murder of her husband and also said she never heard the shot fired at her daughter. she claimed she lost consciousness and her husband was on top of for saying he had always loved her.

but things turned worse -- he was pulling her hair and banging her head on the door frame and the struggle and outside. she claims she is trying to commit suicide and after the shooting, she told doctors she heard a voice saying if you don't do it now, you are never going to do it. prosecutors claim she was a goal-directed and the plan was to kill her husband and daughter. she told jurors she wanted to kill herself. >> she says she was very ashamed of the angry phone messages left for her husband and daughter prior to the shooting, saying when you have a mental illness, you cannot help it. she talked about being very confused the day of the murder. prosecutors say not soak mps to pack up the gun and ammunition. to that, she answered that she did know what to say. -- she said not so confused to pack up the gun and ammunition.

>> police had their hands full after an early morning barricade situation in milford bell. that began when police arrived at a home in the 3600 block of bellmore ave. officers plan to question a man and say the 54-year-old suspect open the door to police only to slam it shut and barricade themselves inside with his wife. he surrendered a few hours later. police believe it may be the result of a domestic dispute between the suspect and resident of the home in the city. >> we have an update on the baltimore county police officer hit by a driver behind the wheel of a stolen car last night. we are told the officer was treated and released and is recovering from his injuries. investigators say he was hit after pulling over a stolen car. the officer was able to fire one shot at the car before he later slammed into a police car. that is when he took off running.

>> he was pursued by the officer and the officer was able to do a suspect in taken into custody. >> to other vehicles were run off the road in the process, fortunately no one was injured. >> one police officer was treated for a knife wound after a car chase. he led officers 3 aberdeen before getting onto interstate 95. police say he finally got out of the car and threatened to kill himself and as officers approached, he swung his arm and cut an officer. >> baltimore city officials are planning a new hot line for women who are victims of sexual assault. this comes after an investigating -- an investigation showing the city led the nation in unfounded reports. we have details live from city hall. >> just a couple of hours ago, the mayor and police commissioner announced the creation of this new hot line. it is for victims and survivors of rape and sexual assault.

it is to report what happened to them either in the past or present or report mystery been well reporting sexual assault. it will be operated by turnaround inc., which the city describes as an established sexual assault and domestic violence center with more than 30 years experience in the baltimore region and will be staffed by experienced advocates who can connect victims and survivors with support. the hot line will help victims gain trust once again in the city and police when it comes to reporting sexual assault. >> i think this hot line is an excellent opportunity for a turnaround to help us identify and get those women to come forth and work in an environment where we hope they can restore their confidence and trust. >> it will begin operation tomorrow morning at 9:00 and hold regular business hours monday through friday from 9:00

until 7:00 p.m.. >> federal regulators want a local banking executive out. it's another dose of bad news for the bank which is under tight regulatory supervision. >> the executives is accused in a civil case of falsifying loan documents for his own benefit in connection with a development project in pennsylvania. he is the senior vice president, the third ranking executive at eastern savings bank. his alleged misconduct does not involve eastern savings, but federal regulators now want him out of the banking business altogether. in papers republic today, regulators say they see fit to remove him from eastern and prohibit him from further

participation in the affairs of the stern and other injured depository institutions. regulators are imposing a $125,000 fine against them. unrelated to the case, eastern savings was put under tighter oversight by federal authorities last year because of the level of bad loans. our message today left at the bank was not returned. >> police have identified a man struck and killed on the bell waived last night. he was walking on 695 near 195 when he was killed. police believe he was walking home because his car broke down. authorities say he walked into the path of a vehicle margin on to the beltway. the driver was treated for minor injuries. >> more delays for marc train commuters. a train stalled yesterday, stranding some 150 passengers. we are following developments. let's go live to camden yards

for an update. >> there are several factors involved, including human error. but there is also a common denominator -- many of the problems are associated with electric locomotives running in hot weather. marc train delays are being delayed -- are being blamed on hot weather and 80 locomotives. the state owns the track and an amtrak operators -- and track operates them. the state is not happy with that. >> that's not the kind of thing that should happen. we have voiced that frustration very clearly to the highest levels of amtrak management. >> the most recent problem occurred monday night. the engineer missed the stop and at the amtrak ceo personally apologized for passant -- personally apologized to passengers. the statement says it appears the engineer appeared to slow the train to late and as a result, continue past the station by three car lengths before coming to a stop. the train was unable to back up and to the station due to

another train behind it. this is only the latest problem has caused delays. some trains are stalling. last month, three locomotives failed in a single 90-degree day. one common denominator is that they are electric locomotives. officials question whether there is enough juice going through the wires during peak hours. >> what the administration has done is purchase a fleet of new diesel engines. we have 26 coming on line 3 >> the mta and federal railroad administrator are investigating why a marc stalled a week ago monday, stranding nearly a thousand people for two hours without air-conditioning. marc commuters can see the real- time status of trains. six trains indicated lays most of the day. passengers at penn station say they haven't lost confidence in the system but still have their fingers crossed. >> [unintelligible] >> being updated is definitely the best thing.

>> as you may know, general david petraeus is on track to be confirmed as the new commander of u.s. troops in afghanistan. >> one week after general mcchrystal's resignation, the senate committee is voting to send general david petraeus. >> general petraeus told the committee supports the strategy in afghanistan, including the timeline for withdrawing u.s. forces. general david petraeus says if he is confirmed, he will be relentless in his pursuit of the taliban. >> the idea is it you can get your teeth into the jugular of the enemy, you don't let go. >> while he has won praise from lawmakers of both parties, it is his support of a 2011 deadline to begin withdrawing troops that

more about executing now than about redesign. >> petraeus is expected to be confirmed by the full senate this week and could be in afghanistan as early as friday. >> just when they go in this month and it is one of the warmest june on record in baltimore. things could change a little but we are in second place as far as the all-time warmest june in baltimore. the warmest was in 1943 with an average temperature of 79.8. we are about one degree behind that this year. it is one-tenth of a degree warmer than june of 1925, which is in third place. throughout this hot and humid months, we said a number of records -- six as i count there. 97 degrees on the 23rd, tying the record high.

124th, setting a new record. 76 degree morning on the 24th is also a record high minimum temperature. 100 on 27. 99, yesterday. 77, this morning, another record high minimum. we may get below that before it is over but it will be a close call. it may be the sixth record set this month. it did not get to 105, which is the record high. we're not setting records there, thankfully. one of the all-time hottest in baltimore. 93 at the inner harbor. look at the cool air in the upper great lakes. that is what we hope is coming into the mid-atlantic. we will not be that cool. it was in the '30's along the u.s.-canadian border. some of the cooler, drier air is headed this way. these temperatures will gradually start coming down but it is warm are around the

baltimore beltway right now. down to pasadena, 89 degrees. westbound, hint of a cooler air. they probably will my guest of the '60s tomorrow as the cool front makes its way off the mid- atlantic. the big storms are well done to the south and east, so partly cloudy skies and was from 6267 with a west wind averaging 6 12 miles hour. the high-pressure is in no hurry, it will stick around for a few days. that is great news for the fourth of july. tropical storm alex is about to become a hurricane. it's no threat to us but southern texas is in the path of that storm. picture-perfect southern -- picture perfect summer whether. tomorrow, 79 to 84 with west wins at 10 miles an hour.

a small craft advisory on the day with gusts up to 20 knots. the northwest breeze from out of the great lakes region is delivering a nice, comfortable summer air. 69 degrees for the high in garrett county tomorrow. cool and lots of sunshine. comfortable change from where we have been. a round of the day, 82 should be comfortable. the low 80s and lund, a persephones along the coast. and i stay at ocean city. there is the swirling cloud mass of tropical storm alex. it's setting over the warm southern gulf of mexico waters, drifting to the west northwest. brownsville, texas, keeping an eye out for this storm is almost up to 74 mile an hour winds. that is almost hurricane force. looks like it will make land fall near brownsville and

the goaltender from portugal comes up big here. knocking away but three minutes later -- not as fortunate. first shot stopped but not the second. when-0, spain when they will play paraguay in the quarter finals because paraguay beat japan. the japanese fans watched their team lose on penalty kicks. hitting the crossbar, opening the door for paraguay to win. takes his time approaching the ball and an oxygen. a major quarterfinal showdown on friday -- approaching the ball and knocks it in. willie cologne out of the steelers with a torn [unintelligible]
